About Frosinone

After two seasons in Serie B, Frosinone are back in Italy’s top flight. Massimiliano Alvini’s side finished second in Serie B to secure automatic promotion. The club has significantly reshaped its squad ahead of the new season. New arrivals include Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen, Florian Grillitsch from Braga and Kevin Akpoguma, who previously played for Hoffenheim. Frosinone are focusing mainly on young players and those looking to seize their chance in Serie A.

Alvini stays on after promotion

Massimiliano Alvini will lead Frosinone in the top flight as well. The coach has already had a brief spell in Serie A, when he was in charge of Cremonese during the 2022/2023 season. This time, he returns to the league with the team he himself guided to promotion. In Serie B, Frosinone were disciplined and made good use of their chances. However, their margin for error will be much smaller against stronger opponents.

The club is building its future around several young players. Gabriele Bracaglia has extended his contract until 2029, while goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani has signed a deal running until 2031. Ilario Monterisi also remains in defence. Keeping part of the existing squad will make it easier for the coach to work on the team’s organisation and integrate the new arrivals.

Schmid and Grillitsch to bolster midfield

Romano Schmid is one of Frosinone’s most exciting signings. The Austrian joins from Werder Bremen and can play as either an attacking midfielder or a winger. His main task will be to help build attacks and find passes that open up a path to goal.

Florian Grillitsch has arrived from Braga. He has Bundesliga and Austria national team experience, which should prove useful in midfield. Oussama El Azzouzi, Luis Hasa and Alessandro Masini have also joined the team. Giacomo Calò remains in the squad and can take responsibility for dictating play and set pieces.

Who will score the goals?

Frosinone have signed Daniel Bîrligea from Steaua Bucharest on loan with a conditional obligation to buy. Lukáš Bobček has also joined the attack from Lechia Gdańsk, while Alessio Zerbin, on loan from Napoli, can play on either wing. Farès Ghedjemis, Giorgi Kvernadze and Antonio Raimondo, on loan from Bologna, remain with the team.

Particularly high hopes are pinned on Ghedjemis. He extended his contract until 2030 in October, and the club clearly has plans for him going forward. In Serie A, he will have the chance to test himself against much better defenders. It will be difficult for the newly promoted side to pick up points consistently if their forwards waste good chances.

Defensive overhaul

Kevin Akpoguma has joined the defence as a free agent after leaving Hoffenheim. Frosinone have also signed Aleksa Terzic, Yassine Fayad and Enzo Tchato. Noah Amey has gone out on loan, while Lorenzo Calvani and Giorgio Cittadini have stayed at the club. Riccardo Marchizza and Giuseppe Masciangelo are among those who have left. As a result, the back line will look different from last season. The new arrivals will need to quickly build an understanding with the other defenders and goalkeeper Palmisani.

Survival is the main objective

After securing promotion, Frosinone cannot afford to set their sights too high. The priority will be staying in Serie A, with improving their position in the table only a later consideration. The club has rebuilt its squad but has not abandoned its focus on young players, whom it wants to develop in the years ahead. Alvini has plenty of work ahead of him. If Frosinone quickly adapt to the higher level, they could make a strong push for survival.
